The majority of our nonprofit clients have been able to retain foundation or individual funding to
cover some or all of our consulting costs. Olive Grove recommends that you explore this option with
your current funders. We can work with you on an hourly basis until your organization has secured
sufficient funding for larger projects.
Fees can be based on an hourly or project basis. An hourly arrangement often provides a higher
degree of flexibility, especially when the exact consulting needs of the client are unclear or may
change. An hourly fee also allows your organization to tap into existing expertise among your staff,
board, volunteers or interns (e.g., facilitation skills, ability to gather data and other research
capabilities, managing the logistics of focus groups, etc.) and therefore reduce consulting costs
overall.
Olive Grove uses a network of experienced nonprofit consultants beginning at $75/hour. The hourly
rate for the President is $300/hour for local clients; $300/hour plus fees for travel time for clients
outside of Northern California. Senior Advisors are $350/hour and up. Generally a retainer of
approximately 25-35% of the total fee is required to begin work. Expenses are billed at cost as
incurred. All invoices are due upon receipt.
Although we do not discount our fees we will work within any budget you have to best leverage our
value and meet your needs. Some of our most interesting client projects have started with an initial
project of only $500, so let us speak with you to design an approach and project that will meet your
